Award-Winning Romney Fleeces
Fleeces raised by a handspinner for handspinners! We have some exceptional fleeces for sale this year. Whether you're a new customer, or a returning one, we know that you'll be pleased with whichever fleece you choose. All fleeces are well-skirted, with nearly all vegetation-contaminated fiber removed. Spinning counts generally range from 44s to 50s (35 to 40 microns). We can help you make a selection if you are looking for a coarser or finer fiber, or one more appropriate for weaving vs. knitting.

We have both natural colored and white fleeces, all ranked on a point system based on their quality and priced according to their score.
Awards
At the 1996 Black Sheep Gathering in Eugene, Oregon over 530 fleeces were judged. Only two fleeces could be entered in any one class by a producer; most classes had around 15 to 20 fleeces. We were quite excited to receive:
- 1st and 2nd place purebred white Romney (Georgia and Grace)
- 2nd and 3rd place purebred white long wool (Fairy and Dixie)
- 4th and 6th place purebred colored Romney (Hudson and Europa)
- 1st and 3rd place purebred colored long wool (Ecstasy and Fatima)
At the 1997 Black Sheep Gathering, there were over 500 fleeces once again and our entries placed as follows:
- 2nd and 5th place purebred white long wool (Dixie and Fairy)
- 5th place purebred white Romney (Ox)
- 4th place purebred colored Romney (Ecstacy)
- 3rd and 4th place purebred colored long wool (Hudson and Gypsy)
- 1st and 3rd place purebred common and braid (44s and coarser) (Grace and Ben)
At the 1999 Black Sheep Gathering, there were over 550 fleeces and our entries placed as follows:
- 1st and 2nd place purebred white common and braid (44s and coarser) (Ox and Grace)
- 1st and 3rd place purebred white long wool (46s-50s) (Dixie and June).
- 4th place purebred white Romney (Fairy)
- 2nd place purebred colored Romney (Gypsy)
- 2nd and 3rd place purebred colored long wool (46s-50s) (Kassandra and Jocelyn)
- 5th place variegated natural colored long wool (46s-50s) (Genie)

All sheep are kept coated to keep the wool clean. Lambs like the twins at left get 24 inch coats when they are about one month old. (It doesn't restrict their movements - they still leap into the air with joy and run around as lambs do!) |

Placing an Order

and photos of the fleeces for sale, and then send
us an email at sales
romneywool.com with
the names or numbers of the fleeces you want to purchase,
and we'll send back a price quote including shipping for your
approval.
Full payment must be received before we will ship. You can use Visa, MasterCard, Discover, or American Express by using PayPal. Or, with a PayPal account, you can transfer funds from your bank account, to pay immediately - saving both of us time and getting your package on its way to you quickly. You do not need to set up an account with PayPal to pay by credit card.

Sales are first-come, first-served. To be fair to others, we must insist that if we confirm your order, that your check arrive within one week of our confirmation for the US and Canada (two weeks for international orders) or the fleece will be offered to the next person on the list. Pending sales will be noted on the fleece list with the purchasers' initials.
Shipping & Handling
Shipping is via UPS/insured at your choice of speed. We quote ground rates unless you ask us to do otherwise. There may also be a charge of $2.00 for each box to cover only our cost.
Our Guarantee
We want you to be happy with your purchase!
If you are unsatisfied with a fleece, notify us and return it promptly in the condition in which you received it for a full refund (less actual shipping costs - we'll credit the $2 box fee, too, if the box can be reused). If you receive a fleece and have doubts about how it will wash up, wash a few locks only.
